How would you define negative space in photography?
Negative Space is the area between and around objects in a photo. It is used to see shapes and sizes more effectively, and produce better composed images.
Why do you think negative space is also referred to as “white space”? Does this mean it has to be the color white? Discuss with your classmates or group mates if you can’t think of an answer.
I think it is also referred to as white space because the the “white” part of the photo really has nothing special to it; However it enhances the main highlight(s) of the photo.
Why does a photograph need negative space? What does it provide for the viewer?
A photographer should provide negative space to the photo because it provides the viewer a subject that stands out, and also one that the eyes are drawn to. Negative space also gives the viewer a resting point and provides balance in the photograph.
